8 Day Select Holiday

Take in a wealth of Wales on this tantalising touring adventure! Our holiday kicks off in the stylish waterfront metropolis of Swansea, home to attractions such as the National Waterfront Museum where the story of Wales over the last three centuries unfolds. Swansea also boasts colourful Clyne Gardens featuring exotic plants and the interesting Dylan Thomas Centre. Our next base is lovely Llandudno known as “Queen of the Welsh resorts”. A traditional seaside town, Llandudno nestles in a sandy bay between the Great and Little Orme with mighty Mount Snowdon towering in the background and is custodian of both the longest pier in Wales and Britain’s only cable-hauled tramway. Out and about, fantastic sightseeing takes in the medieval walled settlement of Tenby, cosmopolitan Cardiff, the walled town of Caernarfon, the island of Anglesey and storybook Beaumaris Castle as well as a thrilling trip on the nineteenth century Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Day One. From local joining points, we journey to Swansea where we check in at the outstanding Dragon Hotel for our four night stay.

Day Two. Tenby is our treat today! This enchanting medieval hamlet is enclosed by ancient walls with a maze of narrow streets, a fifteenth century church and a fascinating Tudor Merchant’s House as well as beautiful blue flag beaches!

Day Three. A free day to explore Swansea, Wales’s second largest city. Attractions include the National Waterfront Museum, Clyne Botanical Gardens, Dylan Thomas Centre and Plantasia – a huge glass pyramid housing tropical plants. Head to the Mumbles area and visit Oystermouth Castle or relax on the city beach.

Day Four. Today we enjoy a guided tour of Cardiff, home to a historic castle, Edwardian architecture and the modern Cardiff Bay waterfront development that houses the Millennium Centre along with shops and cafés.

Day Five. We check out of our hotel and journey to Aberystwyth where we enjoy a trip up Constitution Hill on the Electric Cliff Railway. The longest funicular of its type in Britain and a Grade II listed structure, it is the unique work of engineer, Croyden Marks, and features undulating tracks and tilting carriages. Travelling at a stately four miles per hour, you’ll have time to take in spectacular views as your carriage climbs to the summit station. At the top you will find one of the world’s largest camera obscuras, which offers a bird’s eye view of a thousand square miles of land and seascape. Afterwards, we continue to Llandudno where we are welcomed to the Evans Hotel for our three night stay.

Day Six. Our day begins in Caernarfon, an ancient Celtic town where the main attraction is undoubtedly the imposing castle. Built by Edward I in the thirteenth century, it remains one of Wales’s most prized architectural treasures with its octagonal towers and drawbridge. We proceed across the Menai Bridge to Anglesey then stop in Beaumaris where we include entry to another of Edward I’ ambitious fortresses - Beaumaris Castle – an absolute cracker of a castle with perfect symmetry.

Day Seven. A free day to explore Llandudno. Don’t miss Great Orme Mines – the world’s largest prehistoric copper mine and one of the most astounding archaeological discoveries of recent times or discover how life was for civilians during World War II at the Home Front Experience. Perhaps take a trip on Britain’s only cable-hauled tramway or relax on the beach.

Day Eight. Departing Wales, we call at Chester where you might like to walk the city walls or admire the cathedral. From here, we continue home
