Day One. We make our way to the Highlands of Scotland for our overnight stay at the popular Gairloch Hotel in Wester Ross.
Day Two. Today we journey to Ullapool where we board our first ferry in the Outer Hebrides. Once ashore on the Isle of Lewis we make our way to the Caladh Inn for our two night stay.
Day Three. Our treat today is a guided tour of the lovely Isle of Lewis, the largest of the Outer Hebrides and home to Iron Age dwellings, old corn mills, Norse thatched buildings and ancient standing stones. The island’s Blackhouse crofting village features painstakingly restored dwellings recreating by-gone days.
Day Four. A morning at leisure in Stornoway – perhaps take a stroll around the marina or relax in your hotel and enjoy the views. This afternoon we catch the ferry to South Uist then continue to the Dark Island Hotel for our two night stay.
Day Five. Today we take in a guided tour of South Uist, second largest of the Outer Hebrides and home to a long line of sandy beaches flanked by dunes and flower filled machair - a low-lying grassy plain formed near the coast by the build-up of sand and shell fragments. Landmarks include Ormacleit Castle - a ruined mansion house dating from the early 18th century, the Ushenish Lighthouse and the Kildonan Museum which houses items telling the island’s story.
Day Six. After breakfast we make our way to Lochmaddy where we catch the ferry to Uig on the Isle of Skye. We enjoy a scenic drive through the island, the perfect way to round off our island hopping holiday. After a brief comfort stop we continue home.
